The PREPARED Trial aims to reduce the incidence, severity, duration and frequency of delirium in a long-term care population. We are doing so by taking a program that has been shown to reduce delirium in the acute care setting, and assessing its effectiveness in long term care settings.

Delirium is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among older people admitted to both acute and long term care settings. The Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre for research in aging aims to prevent delirium in he elderly, through the implementation of the PREPARED trial across long term care centres in Montreal.

The PREPARED Trial intervention is based on recognized good clinical practices, and enlists the help of doctors, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and orderlies, all of whom are essential to the success of the trial.
